My Favorite Places to Go in Langkawi
This list will be updated, as and when I find photos from my archives! Please practice sustainable tourism when you're in Langkawi. Don't litter, go for ethical eco-tourism guides and refuse straws. Thank you!
1. Langkawi Cable Car/Langkawi SkyCab
To be honest my first impressions of the Oriental Village was "tourist trap"...and probably still is. Go past all of that and head to the SkyCab. The last time we went, the entrance fee came with access to the SkyDome (a 360 degree projection of an animated roller coaster which always makes me dizzy), SkyRex (exceeded expectations!) and the 3D Museum (tacky but fun with friends). Overall, it's bit pricey but a lot of fun and you can expect to spend about half a day here. The view from the world's steepest cable car ride is breathtaking, especially on a clear, cloudless day like this:
2. Kalut Bar
My favourite moments are spent chilling on the beach with friends, a cold drink and reggae music. Kalut, located somewhere in the middle of Cenang Beach, opens quite early (around 4-5pm) and has an overall great vibe. You can get beer by the bucket and some snacks here, really just a perfect place to chill. When we were there the last time, they put out some water guns for customers to play with.
3. THIRSTDAY
Geddit? Geddit? Hehehehe.
Thirstday has more proper seating than Kalut (which are mostly bean bags on the sand) and there's a wider food menu here, too. I was pleased with the pizza and pasta, and besides beer (which is slightly pricier here), they also had drinks by the bottle.
4. Gelato Cabana
On a hot afternoon, all you want is some good ice cream, and Gelato Cabana never fails to deliver. They used to operate out of a wooden shack on Cenang Beach but have moved to a more permanent shop not too far away. I love gorging on Peppermint and Nutella flavoured gelato, and Durian is really popular too.
